Freedom

Every week a top leader from our office is chosen by everyone in the office and this week Andre was selected. Andre has really stepped up his game this week as a leader, trainer, and employee. He gave an inspirational speech on what Freedom means to his parents' generation and to him. Defined as the ability to do what one wants when one wants, freedom has no limits. Although freedom is a fundamental right, most don't have full freedom.

To Andre's parents freedom constitutes having a stable profession that will pay the bills. The job must be either salary or hourly pay, have benefits,  paid vacation, and takes place Monday-Friday from 9-5. However, freedom comes with a huge cost! These costs usually consist of being micromanaged, confined to a cubicle, and usually busy or menial work. Yet, these are the jobs that tend to have the highest amount of layoffs each year!  Not very stable and secure at all!

For Andre having any of the above is not his priority. He doesn't mind working long hours because he knows if you work hard now you can play even harder later. With most businesses cutting back on benefits, which of those benefits will be left? With salary and hourly pay, you're capped no matter how hard you work or try. Hence, to Andre, freedom is the ability to love one's work, to have fun at work, and independence. Luckily, for him, he has this 'freedom' in his current position. Ultimately, his goal is to one day own his own business. At the pace he is going, he is not far from his goal.

Operation Smile Success

K2 Consultants hosted their first annual Volleyball Tournament for Operation Smile.  We raised well over $500!  That puts us halfway to our pledged goal of $1,000.  We will be hosting more events to raise money for Operation Smile this year.  The money is donated directly to the cause; helping kids in third world countries to fix their cleft lips.  The surgery only is $240 per operation...so we helped two children!!!!

Thank you for everyone who came out on Sunday, September 9th to show their support.  Thank you also to Chili's and Hanafan's of Glastonbury for donating gift cards for our winning team!

 Group Shot!

Congrats to the winning team!!!! Thanks for coming out to show your support!!!

Risk & Basketball

Risk and Baseball

By: Frank Moore

Every week we have a high performing employee run a motivational meeting for the rest of the team!  This week, Frank Moore, had the opportunity to run the meeting!  Here it is:

Back in High school, there was a critical moment in one of the most important games I have played in my career.  Our second basemen was injured, leaving one of the most important positions in the infield open, and with no back up second basemen to fill in, our team was very vulnerable.   At that point, I decided that without any risk, there can be no rewards and hesitantly stuck my hand out in the air to prepare to play a position I have never played before, and knew nothing about.

As the first inning drew to a close, a ball rolled right threw my legs.  At this point, I thought I had one of two options, lose my attitude, give up and go back to a position I was comfortable with, or push on and adapt on the fly as best I could.  I never had a problem with offence and luckily my bat kept us alive in that game as we pushed on towards the final innings.

As I played on, my defense improved, and with that new found confidence I quickly found myself playing the game of my life.  It all came down to the final inning, and as dramatically as possible the final swing with the bases loaded and the game all tied up.   If I had given up I would never have had the opportunity to step up to the plate in the seventh and make that game winning swing, (grand slam by the way).
And now we come to that pivotal point in any story, the moral of course.  Have you figured it out by now?  Well Just in case you haven’t, there happen to be two underlying strengths that have been showcased during that game.  Without any risks in life, you can never expect to receive any rewards, and just as importantly, to consistently win, you must learn how to keep that attitude strong even when the chips are down and all the cards are on the table.  A winning attitude and just the right amount of risks can make a loser a winner any day.

Operation Smile Volleyball Tournament

K2 Consultants Inc. loves to give back to those in need!  We are hosting our first event for Operation Smile.   Operation Smile is an organization that is dedicated to helping children in third world countries by supporting missions for children to have a surgery that fixes the cleft lips.  The surgeries are extremely low cost!

Our goal is to raise over $1,000 this year to donate directly to the cause.  Our donation alone will change the world of at least 10 children!

We are recruiting teams to play for the event on Sunday September 9, 2012.  It starts at 12 p.m. at Century Hills Apartments in Rocky Hill, CT.  5-7 people per team with a minimum donation of $50 per team.

The top team will receive prizes that were donated by local businesses.  So far, Hannafin's Pub and Chili's in Glastonbury have already made a contribution!  Thanks again!

If you would like to participate please contact Kylah through email at Kylah@k2consultants.biz or by phone (860) 289-0234.
